Drinking milk from your own cow, eating a stir fry made with your own crinkly yellow squashes and bulging orange carrots, and beef from your best friend’s animal that you and your dad helped him slaughter. The salad — also full of your own family and friends’ ingredients — is in the bowl your daughter turned on the lathe after you showed her how. She and your wife and your other sons and daughters are all here, all eating and laughing and talking. You are deeply happy.

That’s the dream. It is, in its way, a true dream.

The Steader Manifesto is a newsletter about how to make that dream come true. Its a newsletter about why it should come true.

But most significantly, its a newsletter about that dream should be extended. We aim to extend those true principles of life and community and happiness beyond the narrow niche where its been allowed to express them.

We also aim to pioneer a new style of homesteading and returning to the land that involves community, not just a couple or at best a family.

Please see the Steader Manifesto, for which this substack is named.
