Urbit, pemmican, collapse, stray horses, and more
We cover lots of ground here. Variety is the spice of life.
Identity protection
They are trying to make you a distinct minority group, and you are trying to make you a distinct minority group. So this is relevant.
Dominant majority groups seldom have to worry too much about how to institutionally sustain their community because the mainstream institutions of society are designed in a manner that is consistent with and even reinforces their values.
…
The experience of minority groups is generally very different. They have to self-consciously focus on sustaining their culture and community life, including by creating their own bespoke institutions to serve their community, as well as creating specific practices that demarcate and sustain community life. They also have to specifically steward their own community well-being, and mobilize to advocate on its behalf.

You get out of the heat by jumping into cool water. You get out of the fraud and the meaninglessness by reconnecting with something real and lasting. The land. Your family.
What to do about beef
https://www.texasstandard.org/stories/pressure-increases-for-texas-cattle-ranchers-as-drought-persists/
Drought is causing a big beef sell off. This means that next year beef prices go through the roof because the herds will be small.
You shouldn’t see a big drop in prices right away because of inflation and because most drops in beef prices are captured by the regulation-fueled slaughterhouse monopolists. Anecdotally, steaders are seeing some lower prices at the supermarkets.
Next year you should see price jumps. In the worst case scenario the huge price increases next year will continue as big conglomerates buy out a lot of the struggling ranches.
Under any scenario, long term, you need ties to local farmers and ranchers. Buy from those guys, it makes such a difference to them and gets you quality meat that is robust against supply chain collapses. You also need to be doing your own poultry, raising your own lambs.
Short term, if you do see low beef prices, fill your freezer, make beef jerky and pemmican, and can beef.
Animal protein is a must. Get beef.
Famine indicators
Most famine deaths come from disease or things like heart failure. The weakened system can no longer fight off disease or can no longer rout around existing damage.

Steader tip - living your veg life
Fresh squash and green beans from your garden fried hot in homemade tallow. Vegetables like you’ve never had them before. Put a little onion and garlic in for the savor to permeate the house, building anticipation.
Use it as a side dish, as a light main dish with cream, or as a main meal by adding eggs or beef or chicken.
A hit at church potlucks even among the crowd that rarely eats anything not from a package.
A hit with kids.
Distinct food traditions is an important way to build family identity. Identity needs to be a gut feeling, literally.
Do things that make your family seem weird but that are carefully curated to make you happier, healthier, and draw compliments.
